This week I am going to be going to KPAC (Kristie Phillips Athletic Center) gymnastics with Nedda Stone. She will be helping me with my standing tuck because as of right now she has been spotting me a lot on this particular skill so that I can maybe end up getting it on my own. So whenever I go to KPAC Nedda usually has me working mostly on my basic skills first to make sure that it's good still and then we move onto my higher level skills known as my standing tuck. Whenever Nedda was spotting me I remember one thing that she was having me do, which was to make sure that I kept my head tucked in so that I don't throw my head back and make it harder to stand up because I would fall on my face. Also another thing she told me to do was to make sure that I pull up and not back because I will end up falling and hurting myself if I always go backward instead of forward. You would only go backwards if you are doing a back handspring whereas a tuck you have to pull up and pull yourself around. This week helped me out a lot because it helped me to understand more of my techniques that's needed for this particular skill. I also learned a lot about how whenever we I'm doing a standing tuck I need to be sure that I am pulling myself up around and not backwards. I fell most of the time tonight just because I was going backwards and not pulling my legs in to help me go around, and 2 I was not keeping my head in so it made my tumbling go wrong.

So this week I am going to have my cheer coach Laura Kiricoples spot me and watch me with my techniques. I then am going to be going to KPAC to see my tumbling coach Needa Stone who will help me with my standing tuck. So far I have been told that on my tumbling skills I have been having trouble tumbling straight and keeping my arms locked. Because every time I tumble I always fall and the reason for that is that I'm not locking my arms out. One way that my coach helped me with was she told me that I wasn't snapping fast enough to where it was making my tumbling slow down. So she told me the way that I could fix that is by Doing a handstand and then snap down and I would have to do those types of drills everyday in order for me to get used to snapping down quicker. She has me doing this type of drill so that I can prevent myself from getting hurt. This week helped me a lot with mostly getting down my basics and fixing up the basic tumbling I have. It was very helpful, because if I am wanting to go into a higher level of tumbling then I am going to need these tips/techniques. I will be using them a lot more in the future as well if I am planning on moving upward. My first blog post is mostly talking about what my project is and what it is for. I am doing my project on improving my tumbling skills. I chose this topic because my whole life I have been trying so hard to get to level 5 tumbling and in order for that to happen I have to have these certain techniques. These techniques are 1 having tight and clean motions and 2 I need to be sure when I tumble that I am tumbling sharp and that I can keep my balance so I won't fall and hurt myself. Another thing I need to work on is tumbling straight so that if I am tumbling with someone else I will not run into them and not only hurt myself but hurt them as well.
The first thing that I will do for my project is to start going to the gym and working out so that I can be strong enough to tumble. Then what I will do is have my cheer coach (Laura Kircopoles) spot me on my tumbling and have her watch my techniques. I will be videoing my tumbling so that I can see what needs to be fixed and what looks good. I will be going to KPAC gymnastics as well so that I can get extra gym time with my tumbling coach. Lastly the reason of me doing this project is to show people that you can do anything if you put effort and put everything you have to do it. Yes it will take a lot of work but that's okay because nothing is impossible and everything takes time. So I am going to set my goal and I am going to try and accomplish them by putting everything I've got into it. I hope from doing this project it motivates others to do something they want to do because they realize that they can do anything they want to if they put their minds to it. |
